Hey guys!
Well, Quizzing season 2015-2016 is well under way! Going good so far? That's great! But just in case, or maybe even for future reference, here's some problems that some (if not most) quizzers experience and how you can battle and overcome them. 1. Excessive procrastination early in the year This is probably more common among either more experienced quizzers, or first year quizzers. Its hard because you can get behind very quickly, and "It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together than it does to fall apart." ( -Finnick, Mockingjay.) Maybe kind of dramatic, but true :P Especially if you have memorizing goals. 2. Not being able to find time to practice and study Especially for the more competitive quizzers, this might be the most frustrating thing they could come across when they are motivated, and are ready, but simply cannot find time to commit. Now, I understand how busy life can be, particularly in high school, and how flustered the mind can get in the midst of all of it. The simple keys to finding time are 1) Prioritizing 2) Cutting out unnecessary tasks/activities 3) Multitasking throughout the day (like doing other things while doing brain-not-engaged-tasks like showering or washing the dishes). If you can do these, and really purge your everyday life of everything that doesn't have a purpose, then you'll discover little time loops that you can commit to making yourself a better quizzer. 3. Spending time studying, but getting very little out of it So you're studying, you're putting effort into it, your super excited for practice, and then WHAM! It's like you haven't done anything. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you one of the most defeating experiences a quizzer can go through in one week. This occurs when you think you're focusing, but your thoughts are actually somewhere else. One of the ways you can prevent this, is coming up with quick questions you could take from the given material, as you read through it. I know personally, that I have had trouble with all of these at one point or another. I guess above all, that one of the best things you can do to counteract problems you run into, is realize and admit that you're not the only one who's had this problem, and that you're not a unique case. This may seem discouraging, but when you do it, you also come to the conclusion that if other quizzers experienced what you're experiencing, then there must be a solution, and a way to fix it. I hope this helps, and that you continue to do a fabulous job studying God's word :) Keep calm and quiz on (and out) Your fellow quizzer, Mallory
