Good morning, quizzers!
Since I love pretty much everything about TBQ and have told you so, I'm going to try and narrow it down to five of my most favorite things, just as a little fun activity for us :-) I have so many great memories from quizzing the past two seasons, It's really very hard to pick and choose. In my room, I have a Quizzing safe-keeping box, in which I have things like past-season materials and tools, presents from my quizzing friends, name tags from previous quizzes, and stuff like that. I did have all my Quizzing personal score sheets in there as well, but since the box wouldn't close any more because it was so full, I decided to make a quizzing memory scrap book. Now I have those, wrist bands from the larger quizzes, motivational quotes, quiz schedule sheets, placing cards, and things like that all organized and in one easy-to-reach book, that I look through whenever I need some motivation, cheering up, or just want to re-visit some of my favorite memories. So here's what I've picked as my top five favorite things about Teen Bible Quizzing:
Be thinking about the things that are your favorite this week! It's a really challenging, yet great exercise to do every once in a while, to reflect on these positive things. I know I've been talking a lot about this, but God has really been laying this on my heart for several months now. Don't esteem Quizzing more than you esteem the things of God. It's like a seesaw; if one end goes up, the other end goes down. We NEED to keep Quizzing on the lower side, so that the things of God will go up, into their rightful place. Some of you might be thinking "Well quizzing is learning God's Word, so that counts as 'the things of God'" Well it doesn't.
I love quizzing probably a lot more than some of the other quizzers, but I'm learning that I need to make sure that I love God and learning about Him (not just learning facts, but understanding, and applying), 100% more than Quizzing. If you can do that, then your life will be prosperous, and you'll have good success (Joshua 1:8). Not trying to pressure, or condemn anyone, but I'm telling you this because I want you to be able to realize how important this is, faster than I did, and not waste any more time esteeming something above God. Thank you for reading, keep calm and quiz on (and out)! Your fellow quizzer, Mallory P.S. IMPORTANT NOTICE: I'm going to begin to Co-author TBQJ with one of my good, good friends who I've known since my very first quiz. She is a fantastic Quizzer, who will be able to come to you with different angles about things, and really deepen the blog's content. She'll be introducing herself here in a few days, so I just wanted to give y'all a little teaser for that upcoming excitement! Thanks friend, for helping me with this!

Hey guys!
I know I tried to do this with Acts last year... and that didn't really work... but hey! I'm willing to try again! :D So here we go, diving right into the very first passage of the new material for 2015-2016's quizzing season! Galatians 1:1-5 (NIV 2011) 1 Paul, an apostle-sent not from meg nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead- 2 and all the brothers and sisters with me, to the churches in Galatia: 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. If you take the time to dig into this passage, (not just memorizing it) then you'll actually find a lot of interesting things that you can think on during the day, even after you finish your quizzing study. "Sent not from man, nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father" - We aren't supposed to be sent on missions by people, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, and them ALONE. Don't let people tell you what to do, even if they are in themselves, good things, because you only need, and have to, take orders from God. "Grace and peace to you" - Grace and peace.... what else do we need? That covers basically everything. The spiritual in "grace" and the carnal (world, for those of you who didn't quiz over Romans :P just kidding!) in "peace". You could really get a lot out of thinking on this for a few days, trust me. But I'm gonna let you find those things on your own, to magnify their strength even more so. "Gave Himself for our sins" - "Gave", voluntarily, for our sins, these evil things that we do, he gave himself, the Perfect Lamb, for our dirty, disgusting sins. Wow. Just take a moment, and really think about that. I think that no Christian should ever be sad, or put down, because of this one, little, yet gigantic truth. "To rescue us from the present evil age" - This age, is evil, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize this. All you have to do is look at the world around you - the people, the stuff on TV and social media, the adds and activities that people look at, and occupy themselves with in all their free time, the things are all around us in this first world country, especially. "According to the will of our God and Father" - Jesus did this, because it pleased the Father. In other words, he wouldn't have, if it didn't. Wow. That's huge! This goes right into the next verse, "To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen" That explains how we feel about the previous verse perfectly, doesn't it? For ever and ever, that doesn't mean that we just thank him for a minute, or remember what he's done for us only on Sundays, or during church and youth group, that means all the time, for ever and ever. I hope that this has helped you see how powerful the material is going to be this year, by just a quick look at the very first five verses of the season. I would encourage you this week, to exersize your study time outside of quizzing, and really get into the material, to see what God is going to teach you through it this year. It can, and will, change you life if you let it. Never forget that! Thanks for reading, keep calm and quiz on (and out) Your fellow quizzer, Mallory Me again!
As a continuation of the last post, I wanted to share with you guys a couple of ways that you can find the right balance between Quizzing and life, now that we know we need it. Here of some of the things I had been thinking about:
Those are just the things that stood out to me the most as I was pondering this issue that probably a lot of quizzers deal with throughout their quizzing career. Take these suggestions as flexible guide lines, not as set in stone laws of quizzing, because hey, I'm human too, I'm gonna make mistakes, so always be wary about the advice people give you, no matter who they are, and talk to God about it. He'll never lead you astray, but people might, even if on accident. I really hope that this helps you to begin having a more balanced life, and exel in ever aspect of your young adult life. Thank you for reading, keep calm and quiz on (and out)! Your fellow quizzer, Mallory Hi-ya everyone!
It's been a pretty crazy summer, hasn't it? Well, great news, my church had our first 2015-2016 quizzing practice yesterday afternoon, and it went really well, I think! So now, I am going full-speed on with studying, and continuing memorization of course. I'll be updating you periodically on how that is going, things I've learned, and problems I'm overcoming! :-) Finding the right balance of Quizzing, and the rest of your life can prove to be truly challenging, if you're like me. Of course it might not be as difficult for some people, and if you're one of them, hats off to you! But for everyone else, I'm going to be talking about some things you can do, to make this life-organization process a little simpler, and speed it up a bit. The need for balance between the two: If you have too much of quizzing in your life (which, believe it or not, is completely possible, and happens more often than you'd probably think) then bad things could, and more likely than not, would happen. Your grades in school might drop, you might not be doing as well in sports, or doing as many active activities as you did before quizzing, which are extremely important for maintaining a good, healthy disposition, you could lose friends due to neglected mandatory maintenance, which is a terrible thing to do if it's a good relationship with positive outcomes, even in the name of quizzing, or you could become less rounded than you were before - it's a great thing to be involved in several different things that you spend your time on, for pleasure, or otherwise. And on the other side of the spectrum, if you don't have enough quizzing in your life, then bad things could also happen, to your quizzing career. These things of course, are not nearly as important as the things mentioned previously, if you had too much quizzing. It's very, very important to put it in it's place, and make sure that it stays there. ITS ONLY QUIZZING. So, some things that could happen are, you get behind in memorizing, or studying in general, you lose a good reputation if you had one, you begin to do badly in tournaments, and you might experience a little disappointment from some older quizzers who had high expectations from you, or maybe even, but hopefully not, from your coach. This doesn't matter at all in the end however, because who cares what people think? If you do, I hope that you realize how self-destructive that is, very soon. I'll continue this train of thought later on, to let this sink in a little bit. Thanks for reading, keep calm and quiz on, and out! Your fellow quizzer, Mallory |
