Hey everyone!
Just a little personal note, my 15th birthday was yesterday and it was great, so woo-hoo! Haha :P Whenever a special day like that comes up, I'm just overwhelmed by the reminder of how much of an impact quizzing has had on me, and really how it's changed me, from just being constantly washed by the Word. I wanted to thank you guys for helping me mold this blog for over a year now, and helping me not only encourage other quizzers, but encourage myself too, on our Quizzing Journey. Quizzing in itself will always have a place in my heart, but it's the people who donate their time, who get seemingly nothing back, who give it that special spark. So, thank you! In the SNU region, our regional tournament got moved up on the schedule this year, so it's a little bit earlier than it was in prior seasons, which is taking a tad of adjustment. So the invitationals like the Bethany Quiz this weekend suddenly carry more weight, when we're getting ready for the regional quiz, and trying to make a regional team. I don't know about the other regions, but I know that from what I've seen so far of a lot of the quizzers, is that a lot of them are taking advantage of the smaller material (as opposed to Acts last season) and really working hard and stepping up their game. What this means for quizzers like me, is that I need to keep up in order to not get left in the dust :P (joking) But if other quizzers are stepping up their game, then the competition gets a lot more intense, really fast, which in turn means that our studying needs to get a lot more intense. The transition between a book like Acts, which is full of stories, to a bunch of letters that are filled with a different form of information, isn't something that I've talked much about, and it's probably too late in the season to really address that subject. The point of that is, that there really is a transition that needs to be made, and for a slightly newer quizzer like myself, it's something I haven't exactly mastered, so that's been something I've been working on. Here's a few things to remember, and perhaps even apply, when you're diving into preparation for an invitational, or another larger tournament.
Tournaments and quizzes are fun, but at the root of it all, beneath all of the competition and rules and strategies, the main goal is to learn the Word, and if you're doing that, you're doing it right, and you're winning, no matter how your placing or awards look to everyone else. Use quizzing as a tool to help you get to know the Lord better :) He's dying to get to know you. Happy quizzing, my friends, and I'll see you this weekend at the tournament! Keep calm and quiz on (and out)! Your fellow Quizzer, Mallory
